Anyone comfortable using computers and digital systems is welcome to join - If you are part of a Fab Lab running Fab Academy, local instructors can help decide if these classes are for you.

In these first version of the classes, we do not require you to be part of a node, or to participate in a group. In future versions we will ask for this to happen, and hope that initial participants will become future guru’s in their spaces.

Local costs vary - If you are part of a group (a local node or Fab Lab) please talk to those responsible. If you are alone, you need to look at the prerequisites for the class, and determine cost.

The central costs are per student per class (1 month). There are discounts which depend on the number of students in a group (only grouped payments give access to the discounts) -

  • 10-50 / $300

  • 50+ / $250

Lectures are 1.5 hours, every Tuesday and Thursday at 9AM (Boston time). The time needed to complete the homework depends on the level of the student, but generally one should be able to use 2 full days per week to complete the assignments and document the work.

You can join as many classes as you would like, from a single one to all of the courses we offer

We record all the classes, and it is possible to watch the recording after the fact. Note that we prefer interaction with the faculty though, and you should not consider this to be a massive online course which you can watch whenever you feel like it.

If you successfully complete all the work, you will receive a digital certificate stating your participation in the course, signed by the faculty. This certificate is issued by the Academany

The classes with the global faculty happen on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 9AM EDT. You can check the offset with your timezone on this website. Time to work on the content locally depends on the group you are part of (if that is the case) and varies par node.
